BPA Found in Foods States Consumer Reports
We have all been reading about BPA lately in plastic bottles, however, now we must face the fact that BPA is showing up in our food supply.
A recent report by Consumer Reports magazine, in their December issue, discloses that brand-name canned foods were found to have BPA in almost all of them. High levels of BPA showed up in both Progresso soups and Campbells soups.
BPA, or bisphenol A, is a synthetic estrogen that is used in many products and now, apparently, it has been found in the linings of cans that hold canned foods. BPA has been linked to many diseases including breast cancer, ADD and genital abnormalities in both sexes.
The report also mentions finding BPA in the canned liquid version of Similac Advance infant formula (but not in the powdered version) and in canned Nestlé Juicy Juice (but not in the juice boxes). Yes, this is scary. But we all need to keep ourselves informed and I don't mean just read one report about something, but to keep researching and staying up to date on new findings. We all need to do this for the health of our children and our families.
Perhaps our best defense is growing our own foods, knowing there are no pesticides put on the foods we do grow. Convenience foods seemed like such a great idea and a real time saver but, perhaps, we should let go of those time savers in order to be a life saver.
