Heart Napkin Rings to Make for Valentines Day

Super simple Valentine gift to make. Only takes little Foam Hearts and Red Ribbon, but look how elegant they are. Kids will love giving these to mom or grandmom.

What You Need:

* Foam Hearts - approx 2 inches wide (or cut from Craft Foam)
* 1/4 inch Red ribbon
* Scissors with pointy end

What To Do:

1. Using foam hearts that are approximately 2 inches in diameter, cut two small slits (about 3/4 in apart) into the center of each heart.
2. Cut a 7-8" piece of ribbon for each napkin ring and then thread through pre-cut slits in heart. We rolled up a cloth napkin to tie our napkin rings around, so that the diameter would be just right. In lieu of a napkin, you can tie around a paper tube, such as from a paper towel or t paper tube for the correct diameter. Be sure it isn't so tight that you can't slide it off however.
3. After tying ends, cut leaving about a half inch tail on each side.

Kids Can Make Fun SnowGlobes with This Fun Family Craft Activity for Christmas

Snowglobes ... who doesn't love them ... they are mesmerizing and fun to play with, even for adults. So imagine the fun kids will have making and playing with these cute little snowglobes.

Ours are only made from plastic jars or bottles, including small mayonnaise jars and a new little round Coca Cola bottle that coke just introduced this holiday season. We're actually very excited about this particular little bottle and we are hoping the Coca Cola people keep these going all year. Really ... I have been keeping my eyes open for something like this for a SnowGlobe project for ages and I can think of other fun uses for during the year.

To make the snowglobes, the main thing is finding an appropriate little figure or ornament that will fit into your jar or bottle. The mayonnaise jars are easy to find items, but the little round coke bottles are more difficult. I suggest looking in craft stores and anywhere you might find mini-ornaments.

The Holidays are time to make memories for a lifetime and teach a few lessons

The hustle and bustle of the holidays are here. For many of us the frenzy has begun- decorating, shopping, wrapping, holiday parties, school parties, baking, and overly excited children. It can make for a stressful time of year. I love the holidays and everything that comes with it- the Christmas music, decorations, holiday treats, family time, and special memories.

I have found that sometimes as parents we get so wrapped up in checking off our to-do list during this time of year and making sure we get every last gift our child begged for, that we forget what this time of year is all about. We forget that it is a special time of year that allows us to make lasting memories with our children through holiday traditions, whether old or new.

Holiday Gift Buying: Plan Ahead & Make Your Gifts More Meaningful

Holiday gifts have everything to do with relationships, and when you give someone a gift, you want to be sure that you’re giving that person something meaningful.

One of the most consistent problems people have when it comes to holiday shopping is procrastination. Daunted by overcrowded stores and malls that make you want to crawl out of your skin, you may react in the way that countless others do: avoidance. This year, do not procrastinate. Start early and you’ll be able to relax by the time the end of December comes around.

If you hate the atmosphere of holiday shopping, replete with ringing registers and shoves from the hurried masses, there is a savior you have likely already used for shopping purposes: the internet. In terms of shopping, the internet is an excellent resource to find hard-to-find gifts, those that will light up the faces of your friends and family, and it also prevents the need to go out to the stores to get the gifts you need.

When Turkey is Not Invited to Thanksgiving Dinner

When Turkey is Not Invited to Thanksgiving Dinner

As more people choose to go vegetarian or simply reduce the meat in their diets for health and ethical reasons, the question of what to serve at Thanksgiving dinner becomes bigger than ever before. Instead of simply debating between Mom’s recipe versus Aunt Ruth’s for the turkey, the entire staple entrée is tossed aside. If you have vegetarians coming to dinner or just want to take the non-traditional route, here are some must haves for your Thanksgiving table:

* Vegan Pot Pie: Served steaming hot with tons of veggies, a flaky crust, and chewy tempeh or seitan. Mealsmatter.org
* Butternut Squash and Apple Soup: the rich sweetness of butternut squash plus the natural tartness of apples, pureed with cinnamon and nutmeg. Simplyrecipes.com

Mother's Day Gift Ideas

On Mother's Day, we love gifts from our kids. Hand made art and breakfast in bed, but what most moms want is a little TLC. We want the day or weekend off from cleaning, cooking, and every day demands.

We want to relax, enjoy a little peace and quiet and be given a little extra attention. We want someone (hint, hint hubbies) to show us that 'Tender Loving Care' we show our loved ones and those around us every day. So for Mother's Day we want to be Pampered, and not worry about Dinner. Of course, a gift to tell us just how special we are is always appreciated!
